Client Portal Navigation and Features

Client Portal Navigation and Features

The AE Client Portal serves as a white-label interface for you to convey relevant information to your clients, as well as your cliets to communicate with you and self serve various tasks.

The scope of features available to a client in the Client Portal will vary based on your AdvisorEngine subscription and configuration. In general, only features actually available or relevant will appear to a Client Portal user.

Once a prospect or client has been registered as a Client Portal user, they can log in to the primary Client Portal interface. The various options and functionalities are described below. Any user in a household with a login has access to the same features and permissions regardless of account "ownership". Note that feature availability for your users may vary based on your custodian and firm profile settings.

General Navigation

The Client Portal is navigated by a series of menu tabs across the top under the main header. Again, only tabs relevant to each user appear. Upon login, the display will default to the Overview tab. The various possible tabs and features are described further down.

Above the tabs is the header bar with the following persistent features:

  • Total Net Worth: Displays the current total net worth if applicable. Total Net Worth is calculated from all open accounts as well as any other linked accounts or manually entered assets.
  • Alerts: The alerts icon shows if the user has any unread alerts and by clicking on the bell icon, allows the user to see the alerts. Some alerts are automatic and system-generated, but alerts can be Manually sent to this drop-down as well.
  • Profile: By clicking the initials in the upper right of the header, the user can edit their profile or log out of the Client Portal. Within the profile users can change their basic information, reset their password, add a participant, edit their risk profile, or link a bank account to their portal.

Overview Tab

The overview tab provides most information a user would need to see in one place. The following sections are shown in order:

Summary Card Carousel

At the top is a summary card carousel which can be clicked through using the navigation arrows on either side. The available cards and information that show will depend on what features are active and have relevant information stored in the user’s profile. Each card has a link to see more information that will take the user to the relevant tab being summarized.

Investment Accounts

Each open or in-progress investment account shows in its own card here with relevant details. This section is collapsed by default and must be expanded to view. Each card has the option to view the overall portfolio or holdings within the account, taking you to the associated tab in the Client Portal. Any account openings in-progress will show, with a prompt to click and complete the process.

An Open Account button is also available in the upper right of the section to begin adding a new account, if the feature is available for your subscription, custodian, and customization options.

Linked Investment Accounts

Next any held-away linked account show with relevant summary details. The Add Account button takes the user to the interface to link a held-away account or manually add another asset.

Advisor Profile

At the bottom of the page, if enabled, the Advisor Profile will show, displaying the name, photo, contact info, and support hours of the user’s assigned Advisor.

Investments Tab

The Investments tab shows in-depth reporting on a client's investments and performance. See Client Portal Performance Reporting for full details.

Transfers Tab

The transfer tab allows a client to initiate a funds transfer within the capabilities of the custodial integration. See the following articles for more detail:

Net Worth Tab

The Net Worth tab provides an overview of the client's complete financial picture, including Assets, Liabilities, Income, and Savings. All finances are listed below and can be filtered as needed.

This is also where the client can link or record outside assets to be included in the net worth calculations.

Documents Tab

The Documents tab shows any downloadable documents that has been uploaded to the client’s portal from the Portfolio Manager or CRM. New documents are tagged as New until they have been opened.

Documents can be added through automated processes in the portfolio management suite such as billing or report packages, through manual upload in the Manage Clients Operational tab or through a linked CRM Record.

If the feature is enabled, clients can upload documents for their advisor with the + ADD DOCUMENT button. Advisors will receive a service alert when a client adds a new document.

Planning/Portfolios Tab

The Planning Tab allows the user to view their goals- or risk-based portfolios and create new portfolios if desired.

The name of the tab is dependent on if the firm has Goals-Based Planning enabled. If planning is not enabled, the tab will be called Portfolios.

Existing plans can be selected using the drop-down in the upper left. Full plan details are displayed after selecting.

A goals-based plan can be created or edited by selecting the goals based option from the drop-down.

To create a new risk-based portfolio, click the menu button in the upper right and select Create New Portfolio.

FAQ Tab

If your firm has set up Client Portal FAQs, this is where the client can go to view them. Support hours and contact information are also listed here if enabled.

Contact Us

The Contact Us section displays contact hours and phone number for the firm, as well as an online form that can be submitted directly to the advisor.
