Enabling Pay by Check

By default, AdvisorEngine billing is designed to debit fees directly from the accounts for which the fees are incurred. However, in addition to directing all fees to a specific debit account, it is possible to turn off direct debit entirely and allow the client to pay by check or other direct payment method of your choosing.

To enable pay by check, the setting must be enabled and configured on your Firm Profile, and then enabled on any Billing Household that you want this enabled for.

Enabling Pay by Check for the Firm

As a user with appropriate permissions:

  1. Navigate to Run Business > Firm Profile.
  2. Scroll down to the Billing section.
  3. Toggle on the Enable Pay by Check switch.
  4. Fill in the Send Check To box. This text appears on the invoices for any accounts in households with pay by check enabled.
  5. Click Save at the bottom of the page to confirm your changes.

Enabling Pay by Check on a Billing Household

After the above is complete, enable pay by check for any billing households you need. This toggle can also be enabled as part of Creating a Billing Household.

  1. Navigate to Run Business > Billing.
  2. In the Account Grouping box, click the Billing Households link. The households will populate below.
  3. Locate or search for the household to edit in the list.
  4. Click in the Action column to begin editing.
  5. Enable the Pay by Check toggle.
  6. Click Save at the bottom to confirm your changes.

The accounts belonging to the household will no longer be auto-debited as part of billing and must make their own arrangements to pay fees to the firm.
